The world's biggest Dodger fan (next to Tommy Lasorda, of course!) has to be Randy Mantooth! No question about it, Randy bleeds Dodger Blue! He even named his dog Dodger! So when we were trying to decide what to send Randy on "Emergency's" 30th Anniversary, there was only one answer ... a congratulations letter from Mr. Dodger himself, Tommy Lasorda. Mr. Lasorda responded to our request in a matter of days with this very touching letter to Randy. The Dodgers, as we have always heard, are truly a first class organization. Thank you, Mr. Lasorda, for making the 30th Anniversary of "Emergency!" a very memorable day for Randy and his fans. |

January 8, 2002 Dear Randy, Congratulations on the 30th anniversary of Emergency! The truest test of quality and appeal for a work in any genre is passing the test of time, which you have certainly done. I am very proud of the work you have done for the show, as well as the dedication you have shown to continuing its success. There's an old saying in this country, any person who loves what they do has never worked a day in their lives. This saying certainly applies to you. Congratulations again on such an outstanding 30 year run. I wish you another 30 great years of success and happiness. Sincerely, |

* Tommy Lasorda
recently completed his 52nd season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was
named Vice President of the Dodgers on July 29, 1996 after retiring as
manager, a position he held for the previous 20 seasons. He was promoted
to Senior Vice President on September 11, 1998.
In his current front office capacity, Mr. Lasorda spends much of his time scouting, evaluating and teaching minor league players as well as spreading baseball goodwill to thousands as he makes more than 100 speeches and appearances to various charities, private groups and military personnel each year. As manager of the Dodgers, Mr. Lasorda compiled a 1,599-1,439 record and won two World Championships, four N.L. pennants and eight division titles. In 1997, he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in his first year of eligibility. He was the 14th manager and 15th Dodger inducted into the Hall of Fame. On May 5, 2000 Tommy Lasorda was named to manage the United States Olympic Baseball Team for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. His team, considered the underdogs by many, won the Gold medal on September 27th. And speaking of anniversaries .... Tommy Lasorda and his wife, Jo, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last year! * (Information on Tommy Lasorda from the Dodgers 2001 media guide) A special
"Thank You" to Ellen Harrigan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. |
